Tron and other awesomeness

I went to see Tron Legacy (aka 2.0) at the pictures this week, and it's the first film I've seen in 3D. I was very impressed by the styling and it lends itself well to 3D, although it wasn't essential. I think they did a great job on the lightcyle and flying sequences. One flaw (and a small one mind you) was the 1980's CGI Jeff Bridges (a man who I always confuse with Kurt Russell, but never the other way round). It was quite well done, but there just wasn't enough movement on the face. Especially the brow. True, it was an infinitely better idea than the usual trick of dressing them up in 80's clothes and pretending they're younger, but it could have used a little work. But that's a minor quibble.

Towards the end (and I'll try not to spoil anything if possible) it got me thinking, is our world so perfect? With all the war, famine, violence, working for a living, why would you fight so hard to get back to it all. Especially since the hero of the film didn't have anyone at all to return to. Wouldn't the call of this new unexplored world tempt you at least a little? I just don't understand some people.

It also got me thinking about how lucky we've been with such a treasure trove of awesome films released over the past year or so. The Losers, A-team (highly underrated), Kick-Ass, Avatar, Inception, Star Trek, Iron Man 2, Scott Pilgim vs The World, Monsters vs Aliens, Toy Story 3, even Resident Evil 4 was quite good.

I'n 2011 looking forward to:
